Peperomia Watermelon
Botanical Name: Peperomia argyreia
Common Name(s): Watermelon Peperomia, Watermelon Begonia
Description: Native to northern South America, including Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, and Venezuela. The plant is not related to either watermelons or begonias, but these terms describe the shape, markings, and texture of the leaves. This plant has asymmetrical oval green leaves that are slightly fleshy, strikingly marked with curved silver stripes, and with red stems. Tiny green flower spikes appear in summer.
Care: Avoid overwatering by using a well draining soil and watering when half of the soil is dry. Medium indirect light is ideal and avoid direct sunlight to prevent sunburn. Keep the plant away from drafty windows, heater and A/C vents, and other extreme temperatures.
